DETROIT , MI - NOVEMBER 26: Head coach Jim Schwartz of the Detroit Lions watches the action during the game against the Green Bay Packers on November 26, 2009 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Green Bay won the game 34-12. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)
When Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz arrived to the team in 2009, he brought along the wide-9 technique that had helped him be successful with the Titans. A scheme predicated on pressure on opposing quarterbacks, it highlighted the strength of the Lions defense which was the defensive line. However, after a disappointing season that only resulted in 4 wins changes may need to be made. Schwartz made it clear recently that he is not opposed to a new defensive scheme. “We evaluate every Monday after every single game. Adjustments we need to make, things we need to do better, things that work, things that didn’t work,” Schwartz said via DetroitLions.com. “You also do that on a yearly basis. Part of it is also tied into personnel that you have and you want your schemes to match your personnel. You have a general philosophy, but there’s some flexibility within that philosophy.” With how disappointing the Lions were, any type of change is welcome in my eyes.
