Found August 20, 2013 on Fox Sports:
The Detroit Lions lost one of their three starting linebackers in free agency. His likely replacement will be a familiar face. Ashlee Palmer, who saw plenty of action on special teams last season, will join Stephen Tulloch and DeAndre Levy in the middle of the defense this season. He replaces starter Justin Durant, who's now battling for a job in Dallas. The lead trio also has been helping a largely inexperienced group get acclimated this summer. Aside from the presumed starters, only Travis Lewis and Tahir Whitehead were on the field for an NFL snap in 2012. --- AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org

Barry Sanders says why he left Lions in new ad?

It is hard to believe that 15 years ago, Barry Sanders abruptly retired from the NFL. He has never quite opened up completely to place blame on the Detroit Lions and their mistakes in the front office to surround him with a team that could win, or a coach that he could trust. I mean, he loved Wayne Fontes, but never warmed up to Bobby Ross. Sanders, on the eve of training camp in...

Jim Shwartz on Ziggy Ansah: “the best is yet to come”

Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah caught plenty of eyes during draft season. Lions coach Jim Schwartz says Ansah’s inconsistency has left the best unseen. Please click here to read this story. The post Jim Shwartz on Ziggy Ansah: “the best is yet to come” appeared first on Players View.

Video of the Week: Havard Rugland

Sports Fans, Who is excited for the return of football? I personally can’t wait, and have been watching a good amount of preseason football for some reason. My favorite team is the Lions and while watching one of their games and with the help of writer Eric Huberman, I stumbled upon my new favorite Lion. He hails from Norway and his name is Havard Rugland a.k.a Kickalicious. He...

Kevin Smith “Didn’t Want No F*cking B*tches” In Lions Locker Room

Deadspin has the details on how Kevin Smith interacted with a Lions intern in 2008. The details speak for themselves: I spent the 2008 season interning in the sports department of The Detroit News, mainly covering the Tigers (not a bad gig) …and the Lions. I was 19 years old, a college sophomore from a liberal arts school. Throughout my five weeks at training camp and preseason...

O-line could doom Lions, cost Mayhew his job

What started out as unbridled optimism has begun to morph into restrained hopefulness, tinged with real concern for the upcoming Detroit Lions season. Since last week's abysmal loss in Cleveland -- where head coach Jim Schwartz essentially said the Lions were terrible -- our gridiron gladiators have vowed a better effort Thursday against the New England "Tom Brady"...

Can Brandon Pettigrew Rebound in 2013?

Brandon Pettigrew has been one of the staples of the passing attack for the Detroit Lions since coming into the league in 2009. Having the prototypical body type of a wide receiver, it isn't a surprise that he can be very active in the offense. The post Can Brandon Pettigrew Rebound in 2013? appeared first on Gridiron Experts. [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website...

Kevin Smith Told a 19 Year Old Intern “Didn’t Want No F*cking ********** In the Locker Room

There are many reasons why Kevin Smith is a former Lions’ RB.  One is the fact that he couldn’t stay healthy.  Two was he wasn’t very good at playing football.  Three can be summed up in the details below: I spent the 2008 season interning in the sports department of The Detroit News, mainly covering the Tigers (not a bad gig) …and the Lions. I was 19 years old, a college...

Lions vs. Patroits: Five things to watch

It's the third exhibition game, which means more playing time for the starters, the closest the preseason comes to simulating the regular season. The Detroit Lions take on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots Thursday night at Ford Field. The Lions would like to see the first-team offense come to life and score its first touchdown of the preseason while the defense needs...

WR Mike Thomas Released By Lions, Signed By Cardinals

Within the span of 24 hours, wide receiver Mike Thomas was released by the Detroit Lions and then promptly signed by the Arizona Cardinals. Still only 26 years old, Mike Thomas was a huge let down in Detroit. The Lions gave up a 5th round draft pick to acquire Thomas mid-season in 2012 to help with the rash of injuries to the receiving corp. Even after all the trouble the Lions have...

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--The Minnesota Vikings added a bit of defensive line depth on Tuesday by signing defensive end Spencer Nealy, according to the team's official Twitter account.Nealy, an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M, spent time this summer with the Detroit Lions but was released on Aug. 1. Lions notes: Slay takes over on first-team defense

ALLEN PARK, Mich. A popular line around NFL camps these days is that the preseason games dont count but they matter. For Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Darius Slay, this next one counts and matters. It appears that Slay has a chance to lock down a starting job for the regular-season opener with a strong performance in Thursdays exhibition against New England at Ford Field. Hes...

Ndamukong Suh: I’m Ready to Take Down Tom Brady

Even though it is just the preseason, I think it would be foolish for a team to not take Ndamukong Suh seriously any and every time he steps onto the football field. The Lions take on the Patriots this Thursday during Week 3 of the preseason and the defensive tackle is looking forward to the […]

Just a day after being released by the Lions, receiver Mike Thomas signed with the Cardinals on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Less than a year ago, the Lions acquired Thomas from the Jaguars in exchange for a 2014 fifth round pick.
