The Detroit Lions will be without one of their best defensive linemen for the next few weeks after tackle Corey Williams underwent knee surgery Tuesday.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz announced the procedure today after Williams missed his second straight practice.
I didnt announce it yesterday because I wanted to wait until we got two days of gameplan from Minnesota so they wouldnt know, Schwartz said. But hell be declared out this week.
Williams had one sack in each of the Lions first two games but was ineffective in scaled-back action last week against the Titans.
Hes been bothered by knee pain since early in training camp and practiced sparingly this month.
His knee had been getting a lot of swelling in it and it slowed him down a little bit from being able to practice, but also slowed him down a little bit in games, Schwartz said. So hopefully we can put that behind him with what he had done. But we rotate a lot of guys in there and Nick Fairley and Sammie Hill have an opportunity to go in there and get more playing time. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Detroit Lions quarterback Mathew Stafford is dealing with a hip injury and there’s a good chance that he doesn’t practice much this week, but still plays on Sunday.

Every year a team goes from in the playoffs to winning 5 games or fewer. The Lions, one of my preseason overrated teams, are a finalist for that spot, but I have them finishing a little bit better than that. However, their defense is atrocious just like last year and Matt Stafford, even if he doesn’t get hurt again, is not going to throw for 5000...
Lions running back Mikel Leshoure, who had a stellar NFL debut Week 3, was limited in practice Wednesday with a groin injury. The Detroit Free Press reports Leshoure did partake in position drills. Source: CBSSports Attached Thumbnails

An attorney for Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley asked a judge Wednesday to approve a pre-trial diversion program instead of putting the player on trial facing charges of drunken-driving and fleeing police.
Stafford was a full participant in practice today, but two of his most important offensive weapons -- running back Mikel Leshoure and tight end Tony Scheffler -- were listed as questionable.
Safety Louis Delmas (knee) and linebacker Travis Lewis (quadriceps) did not practice today and are out Sunday. Corey Williams is out after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday.
Cue the fish alien. This game is a trap for the Detroit Lions. They gave up a large number of big plays last week against the Titans, and were down 14 points with 30 seconds left to play. They got lucky and landed a series of miracles to reach overtime, but they were easily beaten in that game. The Minnesota Vikings did the exact opposite this weekend - they stunned everyone by beating...
