Corey Williams’ season is over, and the Detroit Lions have re-signed Andre Fluellen to be his replacement. The Lions informed Williams today that they are placing him on season-ending injured reserve because of a right knee injury that has limited him to just seven games this season. Williams has been dealing with pain in his knee since training camp, underwent surgery in late September and said last week this was the most frustrating season of his nine-year career. “I don’t like it one bit having to deal with this knee injury,” Williams said. “It’s just been a tough year for me. It’s been rough, I ain’t going to lie.” A restricted free agent after the season, Williams said he wants to return to the Lions next year and is willing to play whatever role coaches deem necessary. He has six sacks since joining the Lions in a 2010 trade from the Cleveland Browns. “If it’s me having to be a backup, then hey, that’s what I got to do,” Williams said. “If it’s, ‘Well, you got to get out here in training camp, and it’s like a battle of who’s going to remain the starter,’ hey, that’s what I’ll do. I don’t have no problem with whatever goes on.” Source: Detroit Free Press Attached Thumbnails

Detroit Lions fall short in Green Bay… Again

Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson played his first NFL game in 1992; more than 20 years ago. Every one of his 21 NFL seasons has been in Detroit, yet he still hasn’t beaten the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. 21 seasons ago, in 1991, the Detroit Lions went to Wisconsin and beat the Packers.  Since then, Detroit has exactly zero wins when facing the Packers on the road, and...

Schwartz not happy with Bell's antics

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz has consistently praised reserve running back Joique Bell this season. Those days might be changing, at least for a while. Bell was the one responsible for the Lions getting a 15-yard penalty for celebrating their second touchdown, when they took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. The penalty was enforced on the kickoff...

Jim Schwartz upset with Joique Bell over TD celebration. Really?

During Lions head coach Jim Schwartz‘ press conference Monday, he announced that he’s going to “check” some of his compliments of running back Joique Bell.  Not because Joique Bell got in trouble with the law.  Not because Joique Bell has gone out of his way to rough up opposing players drawing negative attention to the team.  Not because Joique Bell was late for practice...

Fairley's maturity showing through success

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested twice during the offseason, once for allegedly driving 100 mph while under the influence of alcohol back in his hometown of Mobile, Ala. He was fortunate there was no tragic outcome like the one early Saturday morning involving Dallas Cowboys practice-squad player Jerry Brown Jr. Brown was killed in a car...

Lions WR Calvin Johnson Could Surpass Jerry Rice's Single-Season Record

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has 1,546 receiving yards through 13 games. That's about 118.9 yards per game. At that pace, he would finish the season with 1,903 yards. In 1995, former San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice accumulated 1,848 yards, a record that still stands to this day. It is also still very possible that Johnson eclipses 2,000 yards, something no...

Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew Not Ready To Practice

Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who suffered an ankle injury Sunday, was held out of practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 15 at Arizona. This is a bad time for Pettigrew to be dealing with an injury since the Lions could really use him in the passing game due to all the issues they have at wide receiver. Sadly, Pettigrew might have to sit out Week 15 because of his...

NFL Won't Change Challenge Rule Made Famous By Lions Coach Jim Schwartz Yet

There will be no immediate change to the challenge rule before the start of the playoffs, a source involved in the process said Wednesday. The rule became infamous after a Jim Schwartz challenge attempt cost his team a touchdown in the Detroit Lions' 34-31 overtime loss to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving Day. All scoring plays are automatically reviewed but per the rule...

Capers Stuck to Guns to Stop Lions' Run Game

Green Bay stuck with its nickel and dime packages, even while being gashed by Lions running backs Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell. The second half was a different story, as the Packers slammed the door on the run game and made the Lions one-dimensional.

Lions-Cardinals Preview

The Detroit Lions' latest loss included a dubious feat, but even their recent woes don't seem to compare to those of their next opponent. While the Lions attempt to snap a five-game skid Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals seek to avoid matching the franchise's longest single-season losing streak and bounce back from one of the most lopsided defeats in NFL history. After...

Good, Bad and Ugly: Lambeau Losers
