The Detroit Lions ended disgruntled receiver Titus Youngs season by placing him on injured reserve, one of several moves the club made on Tuesday. Young had been inactive the last two games for disciplinary reasons after his moody behavior became a distraction to the team. More than likely, the Lions will try to deal him during the offseason, although his trade value certainly has dropped under the circumstances. Young, a second-round draft pick in 2011, was told to stay away from the team two weeks ago. He was allowed to return to practice last week, but then told to stay away again before Sunday's game. The Lions were off Tuesday, but coach Jim Schwartz addressed the Young issue during his Monday news conference. I certainly believe in second chances, Schwartz said. Theres no greater story in the NFL or in professional sports than redemption and people that overcome situations. I think we all hold out hope that guys can do that. But you need to make the most of the opportunities you have. When you do get a second chance and youre welcomed back, you have to do everything to take advantage of that opportunity. I think in this case, that didnt happen. In other moves, rookie Ryan Broyles also was placed on the injured list because of a knee injury while receiver Kris Durham was elevated from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Lions, meanwhile, made a surprise move by releasing safety Erik Coleman. The club signed free-agent safety Tyrell Johnson to replace Coleman. Johnson, a second-round pick by Minnesota in 2008, was released before this season by Miami.
