ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Cornerback Chris Houston was the one player that the Detroit Lions could least afford to lose in their secondary. They knew it and they made certain not to let him get away, re-signing Houston Tuesday to a five-year deal. Houstons agents, the firm of Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, confirmed the agreement on Twitter. Chris Houston has agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions, Schwartz & Feinsod tweeted. Houston, who had changed agents only a couple days earlier, wanted to test the free-agent market. That market, however, became flooded with the recent releases of several high-profile cornerbacks for salary-cap reasons, including Philadelphias Nnamdi Asomugha and Minnesotas Antoine Winfield. Houston, 28, arguably the only source of any consistency in Detroits defensive backfield last season, was believed to be the Lions No. 1 target of their 23 unrestricted free agents entering this offseason. A second-round pick by Atlanta in 2007, Houston was acquired by the Lions three years ago in a trade with the Falcons. He is entering his seventh NFL season and fourth in Detroit. That is the first of what the Lions hope to be a very productive day. Three free agents -- running back Reggie Bush, safety Glover Quin and defensive lineman Jason Jones -- are taking visits to the club's facilities Tuesday. All three positions are significant areas of need for a team that went from 10-6 in 2011 to 4-12 last season.
