The Lions have high hopes for Ezekiel Ansah, whom they took
with the fifth overall pick in the draft. Unfortunately, after being blindside
by Leroy Harris during a non-padded practice on Saturday, he may miss some
Ansah finished the Saturday practice, but unable to work on Sunday and was taken
to the locker room during team stretches. When ask about the injury Head Coach,
Jim Schwartz, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, replied:
"I don’t have any
comment on anybody’s physical condition."
The answer is vague to say the
least; however, it seems to be a smart move on the Lions part, as they try to
keep a competitive edge against opponents. After all, they have no obligation
to discuss injuries with the media, and this buys Ansah time to recover from
whatever injury he sustained before the next injury report comes out. However,
if this turns out to be a concussion, he will need to be cleared by an
independent neurologist before returning.
Ansah was used sporadically
during his time on the BYU football team, but showed so much promise and potential
during the 2013 Senior Bowl that the Lions, desperate for depth at defensive
end, had no choice but to take him. Though he is a freakish athlete, his true
ability is both raw and vastly unknown. He has had an incredible preseason and
