New England Patriots OL Logan Mankins, who underwent ACL surgery after the Patriots Super Bowl appearance appears headed to the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start the season. There has been no official word from the Patriots organization, not a surprise for a team which is typically very secretive when it comes to injury issues.
The recovery time for a typical ACL surgery is approximately nine months. On the calendar, that would place Mankins return sometime around November. James Walker, who covers the AFC East for ESPN believes that the team will place Mankins on the PUP list, meaning that he will be unavailable to the Patriots for the first six games of the regular season.
The Patriots had put a contingency plan in place for the possible absence of Mankins by signing OL Robert Gallery this offseason.
