It turns out the $50,000 that a lucky (or crazy) New York Giants fan won Sunday in Las Vegas will be going to charity.

After betting $1,000 on 50-to-1 odds that the first score of the Super Bowl would be a Giants safety, Jona Rechnitz earned a huge pay day when quarterback Tom Brady’s intentional grounding penalty in the end zone during the Patriots’ first possession gave the Giants an early 2-0 lead. His betting ticket is picture above.

But Rechnitz, the owner of a successful real estate company in New York, won’t be keeping a single penny of his prize. He told TMZ that all of his winnings will be donated to a handful of charities, including one of Brady’s choice:

Jona tells us, he plans to donate $5,000 to Tom’s charity of choice — in the hopes Tom and the Pats will match it — and $5,000 to the charities of choice for the Giants defensive linemen who made the safety play. Jona also wants to take Tom out for an all-expenses-paid falafel dinner.

As for the rest, Jona says he plans to divide up the balance after taxes … and donate it to a bunch of charities benefiting the less fortunate.

The Super Bowl MVP ended up being Giants quarterback Eli Manning. But it sounds like it should be this guy.
