The Texans got a nice surprise Monday when safety Danieal Manning participated in his first practice since breaking his left leg October 23 against the Titans. Manning is back sooner than expected since he was supposed to be out six to eight weeks. Manning missed five weeks with the injury. "When I rehabbed, those guys in the training room did a great job," said Manning. "Kap (trainer Geoff Kaplan) and those guys did a great job with me. I was up here at eight or nine every morning and I didn't get home until two every day." With quarterback Matt Schaub likely going to injured reserve by mid-week, the Texans are shopping for a third quarterback to add to their roster. With Matt Leinart taking over the starting job, rookie T.J. Yates becomes the back-up. The Texans are trying out five players for the job Monday: Jeff Garcia, Kellen Clemens, Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle and former Rice quarterback Chase Clement. "I think it's probably important (to sign another quarterback)," said coach Gary Kubiak. "If you get in a situation where you lose another guy you better be grooming somebody. We got five guys we're going to work out today... it doesn't mean we'll sign one of those guys, but it's important we sign somebody. Speaking of Schaub, he is scheduled to see a doctor in Charlotte Tuesday as the Texans hold at least a glimmer of hope that his season isn't over. With lefty Matt Leinart now taking over the question has come up about whether it will be difficult to run the same bootlegs, play actions and other plays that were effective with Matt Schaub. Texans players are finding this curiosity as almost amusing since almost nothing will change. Plays can be run to any side with a left-handed or a right-handed quarterback. And while Eric Winston now becomes the blind-side tackle, he doesn't see that as a huge change. "A lot's been made out of that and I really don't know what to make of it," Winston said. "I have to prevent my guy from hitting the quarterback, whether (the quarterback) is facing me, not facing me, whatever." Congratulations to Texans tackle Duane Brown who became engaged over the bye-week. Brown popped the question in Los Angeles. "My fianc is from out there," said Brown. "I had a surprise dinner set up for her with her family and friends and she thought I was flying back to Houston. She showed up there with her friends and I came up and did my deal... got down on a knee. "Good thing it was the bye-week because I was fresh enough to get up from the knee." The bride-to-be is Devon Anthony of Los Angeles.
