If you thought the “Jameis Winston stole crab legs from a Publix” story that blew up the internet yesterday was done, you were wrong. Today, we’ve already have one grocery store troll Winston (and use his Heisman-winning name to promote their crab legs), and now a former Pro Bowler has launched a bit of a conspiracy theory on Twitter. ESPN personality Marcellus Wiley took to Twitter today in defense of Winston, claiming that the quarterback is taking the fall for the program, and that Publix has been hooking up players for years. Jameis Winston’s ‘falling on the sword’ 2 protect his teammates & ‘higher ups’ who knew of this Publix taking care of players for years! #YO — Marcellus Wiley (@marcelluswiley) May 1, 2014 South Florida Sun-Sentinel writer Omar Kelly seems to corroborate what Wiley is saying. To @marcelluswiley @mikefreemanNFL not YEARS….DECADES. — Omar Kelly (@OmarKelly) May 1, 2014 Florida State really doesn’t need allegations like this floating around. It also doesn’t seem to make sense that Publix would blow up this story on Jameis Winston of all players if they did have some arrangement with the Florida State program. We’ll see if Wiley has more to add to this story.
