Yesterday, Jason La Canfora targeted the Jacksonville Jaguars as a likely landing place for Seahawks quarterback Matt Flynn, citing multiple NFL sources. Also mentioned as potential teams for Flynn were the Bills and the Raiders. Of the three teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars make far more sense than the Raiders or the Bills. The Raiders have no incentive to top any deal made by the Jaguars to trade for Flynn. The Jaguars drafts second overall, and they would likely pass on Geno Smith if they're able to trade for Flynn by that point. The Raiders draft third overall, meaning Flynn would almost certainly fall to them. The Bills, like the Jaguars, are in the opening stages of rebuilding their team. While it may be an attractive option to bring in Matt Flynn now, it's unlikely that Flynn, or any other quarterback available, could succeed with the Bills at this time. They simply don't have the foundation in place to have any hope of success. The Jaguars do have a foundation in place. If they brought in Flynn, they could spend the second overall pick on an offensive tackle. That pick, combined with current tackle Eugene Monroe, would give the team one of the best offensive tackle tandems in the NFL. The Jaguars have one of the best running backs in the NFL, and they have some solid targets for their quarterbacks, most notable, Cecil Shorts III and Justin Blackmon. There's no guarantee that the Seahawks will deal Matt Flynn. Although he has a huge contract by backup standards, their starting quarterback, Russell Wilson is set to make just over $526,000 in 2013. That allows the Seahawks to drive up the asking price for Matt Flynn. Combine Wilson's low salary with a poor quarterback draft class, and Flynn's value will never be higher. It's because of his value that I do expect Flynn to be traded before the draft, but if the Seahawks decide that he's more valuable as their backup, could you blame them?
