If it wasn’t already before, Maurice Jones-Drew made clear his intentions should his financial situation not be rectified.

Speaking to the NFL Network, Jones-Drew implied that he does plan to hold out of training camp, barring a new contract extension.

“This is the side of the NFL that’s just as real as Sunday,” Jones-Drew said, via the Sporting News. “This is what the NFL is really about. What I can say is that I hope that we can get something done.”

These were MJD’s first public comments of the sort this offseason, and, with a bit of optimism in mind, he feels they could be the last.

“To talk about it in the media is not going to help,” he said. “Hopefully we can have something where we can be able to get out there and play in the future.”

MJD, who skipped the Jaguars’ offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp, has two-years remaining on his current deal, which is set to pay him $4.45 million in 2012 and $4.95 million in 2013. However, the 27-year-old is making much less than fellow superstar running backs, despite leading the league in rushing last season. Justified or not, he wants to be compensated for his production.
