Maurice Jones-Drew is a former NFL rushing champion on the free agent market and looking for one more payday. Unfortunately for him, he may have to wait a bit longer than he’d like to get it. Despite reports that the Dolphins, Jets, Patriots and Steelers are all interested in acquiring MJD’s services, landing with a team at the price he believes he deserves could be tricky. According to the New York Post, Jones-Drew may have to wait until late into training camp or even the beginning of the season to get his asking price, and MJD is apparently willing to do just that. While Jones-Drew’s agent is expected to meet with several teams at the NFL owners meetings this week, a league source said the league’s 2011 rushing champion thinks he is worth at least $3 million per year and is willing to wait out the market. The source said Jones-Drew might be willing to wait until late in the summer or even into the season as an injury replacement if teams aren’t willing to meet his price. Seems like Jones-Drew is more interested in getting the right check than finding the right situation. Gotta get that paper I guess. We’ll see how this plays out, but you don’t usually see an aging running back coming off of back-to-back supbar seasons get a nice contract. It might be a long wait for Maurice Jones-Drew this off-season.
