The Detroit Lions playing football on national TV during Thanksgiving day has often been one of the few bright spots for Lions fans. This year, the Lions are off to a solid 6-2 star, and play the undefeated reigning Super Champion Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving. As a result, this year the search for half time talent is heating up.
An online petition recently emerged with Detroit Lions furious about Nickelback playing at half time. The reason behind the anger at Nickelback at the half time show is because fans want a musician that represents Detroit and is local (Nickelback is from Canada).
One of the names being mentioned is Mayer Hawthorne, a Hip Hop artist from Ann Arbor,MI. Hawthorne, a Diehard Lions fans, told Rolling Stone that, “Detroit is a huge part of everything I do. Not even just in music. It’s a big part of life for me. That’s where I grew up, and it’s the city that I love. I wrote an anthem, an ode to Detroit on my new record.”
