Initially, Willis McGahee thought the injury he suffered in Week 11 wasn't too severe. Then, despite a 6-8 week prognosis, he hoped to return in time for the playoffs. Unfortunately for him, he was wrong on both counts. FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported Wednesday that the Broncos placed McGahee on injured reserve, ending the veteran running back's season. The 31-year-old sustained a torn MCL and leg fracture during last Sunday's win over the Chargers. Though he won't require surgery -- only a significant amount of time off his feet -- there's no chance he would've returned to the field in 2012. It's a big blow to both the Broncos and McGahee, who was putting together a spectacular campaign with 731 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Going forward, Denver will employ a committee attack featuring rookie Ronnie Hillman, Lance Ball and former first-round pick Knowshon Moreno.
