Even while battling injuries, cornerback Terrance McGee’s job with the Buffalo Bills is safe, at least for now.

McGee, who is recovering from patella tendon surgery, was amongst the players not cut Friday. He has had some tough competition at this year’s camp. 2012 first-round pick Stephon Gilmore has had a strong showing so far, and 2011 selection Aaron William is looking to lock up his spot on the team.

While he was a dependable player during his first couple of seasons, he has since missed 16 games over the past two seasons, The Associated Press reported.

"I have to get out there and play and see where I'm at," McGee recently told The Buffalo News. "You can only judge so far at practice. You've got to go out there and tackle guys, go up against the speed … It's the league. You have to get back to that level."

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey recently told The Associated Press that he wants McGee to get healthy.

“Yeah, I mean you always are [concerned],” Gailey told The Associated Press. “Until a guy can go out there and play consistently and have no setbacks you get worried. I've got a lot more confidence with where Eric Wood is than I do with Terrence McGee because Eric has had no setbacks [from ACL surgery]. Terrence has had a couple of setbacks during the course of camp and preseason practice.

The team is also hoping McGee will provide a strong, veteran presence for its younger players.
