Playing in the AFC East will always provide plenty of “healthy” rivalry games for the four teams that occupy this highly vaunted division, but the question remains: What is the biggest home game of the season for the Miami Dolphins?

A pre-Christmas Eve match up with the Buffalo Bills gets my vote.

The Dolphins have already decided that rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be under center Week 1 when Miami takes on the Houston Texans.

The real question is whether he will still be under center in Week 16 for one of the top home games of the season.

David Garrard is still recovering from knee surgery and Matt Moore has more or less gotten lost in the mix as far the quarterback battle is concerned.

Tannehill may be seen as the answer for the Dolphins in the future, but this team is certainly capable of winning right now. If Miami can find seven or eight wins on the schedule before Week 16, this could be a battle for a wild card slot behind the New England Patriots.

The rookie may be able to lead this charge, but do not be surprised if new head coach Joe Philbin has a short leash on his young signal-caller.

Football is all about winning, even in the middle of a rebuilding process, and David Garrard proved early on in camp that he was the top quarterback on the roster.

If Garrard is not the answer and the Dolphins find themselves at the bottom of the AFC East standings late in the season, Miami could play the role of spoiler for one of the dark horse playoff candidates in the AFC.

Over the past six seasons, the two teams have split the rivalry in half each winning six games, although the Dolphins have won three of the past four clashes. Spoiler is not the best role to be in at season’s end, but it can help to build for the future.
