The Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins opened their seasons today with a game showcasing one of the league's best defenses (Texans), and a team starting a rookie quarterback (Dolphins), and in typical fashion the sage defense outclassed the rookie newcomer.

Here are some highlights regarding the things we learned today from the Texans-Dolphins game:

1. Even a less than completely healthy Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is still better than most other running backs.

Foster accounted for 79 yards rushing on 14 carries, adding two touchdowns on the ground. To sum up Arian Foster- 'he is who we thought he was'.....

2. Miami Dolphis rookie quaterback Ryan Tannehill may very well blossom into a star quarterback in the NFL, but the Houston Texans did not give him a very nice welcome to the league.

Tannehill finished 20-36 through the air for 219 yards, including three interceptions. Houston has a stout pass rush and solid front seven and the Texans showed why their defense is considered one of the league's best.

3. Houston quarterback Matt Schaub, typically a gunslinger with big stats finished the game with a modest 20-31 for 266 yards and one touchdown. Not great numbers fantasy-wise, but Schaub did not throw an interception and managed the game effectively. Matt Schaub's numbers will be there at the end of the year; this can be considered a warm-up for things to come.

4. It very well may be a long year for the Miami Dolphins, with a new head coach, new starting quarterback, and a new go-to receiver, the Dolphins can expect a year of transition and learning. Hopefully they can accumulate confidence and some wins during the upcoming season, though it would not be surprising to see Miami finish with five wins or less.

5. The Houston Texans are primed for a deep playoff run this season. Even with their two biggest stars, Matt Schaub and Arian Foster, having less than spectacular days, the Texans still managed to put up 30 points on the board and overwhelm the Miami Dolphins.

With a stellar defense, good coaching, and an offense that should be among the league leaders in points and yardage, Houston can hope to be playing football in late January 2013.
