These are just a few of the questions NFL teams will have to consider if they are to go after free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress in 2011. In the fall of 2009, Burress went to jail after a gun that he was carrying (illegally) with him accidentally went off in a Manhattan club and shot him in the thigh. On September 21, 2009, Burress was sentenced to two years (20 months with good behavior) in prison for violating strict New York gun laws. The latest reports indicate that he could be released as early as June 6, 2011, giving him just enough time to be signed for next season. Only one team in the NFL thus far has openly stated it has interest in possibly picking up Burress.
