Chip Kelly needed a running quarterback to make his Oregon offense work in Philadelphia, and he’s getting one in Michael Vick. After much speculation that the Eagles and Vick would part ways this offseason due to the hefty amount of money left on Vick’s contract, the two sides have instead restructured Vick’s deal, according to the Eagles. What remains of the six-year, $100 million contract the quarterback signed in August 2011 is unclear. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Vick’s restructured contract is for one year, which would appear to wipe out the huge money in the previous contract. Biggest off-season QB domino already has fallen: Eagles have re-signed Michael Vick to a one-year deal for 2013 season.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 11, 2013 Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports gave these details. Mike Vick's deal with the Eagles for 2013 can be worth up to $10M. Was to make $15.5M previously. Should be good fit with Chip Kelly.— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) February 11, 2013 With many teams needing a new quarterback, Vick was considered a prized piece this offseason. The Eagles, however, also need a starting quarterback, and Vick’s skills perfectly fit the run-oriented offense that new coach Kelly made successful in Oregon. The Eagles haven’t anointed Vick as the definite starting quarterback for 2013, though. “Like every other player on the Eagles roster, Vick will compete for a role on the team in 2013,” Bo Wulf wrote in the Eagles’ news release. Nick Foles, who took over for Vick in the second half of 2012 after Vick was sidelined with a concussion, will also be in the mix, and the team could add another quarterback, according to the news release. Vick first started for the Eagles in 2010. He has gone 18-16 as the team’s starter, completing 60.2 percent of his passes for 2,894 yards, 51 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in that time.
