It’s apparent that the NFL’s severe penalties handed down to New Orleans Saints players and coaches for creating and participation of their bounty programs for targeting opponents weren’t severe enough.  You would think that forcing NFL coaches to sit out for at least parts of a season (including head coach Sean Payton missing all of 2012) and suspending Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams indefinitely would have served as an example to how seriously bounty programs should be taken.  But as they say, there’s an idiot in every corner. And in this case, the idiot resides at Westland John Glenn High School in Westland, Michigan.  According to a report by WXYZ Detroit, in the John Glenn locker room, a member coaching staff posted a picture of an opposing player the Rockets would face this Friday in their game against Ann Arbor Huron High School. That player is Quavon Smith, a Huron running back, who used to attend John Glenn.  On Tuesday, Smith began receiving text messagesand emails saying the coaches told the players to “take him out” and ” finish him”.  Smith admitted that there was some tension between the coach and him and his dad while he attended his former school. According to WXYZ: Superintendent Greg Baracy says the coaches assured him they never said that, although the picture was up in the locker room and Baracy says he told them to immediately take it down. Baracy says just having the picture up in the locker room was inappropriate, but he believes his coaches and players will be professional and play with good sportsmanship on Friday night. Despite the assurance, Quavon Smith is going to play it safe and sit out Friday’s game due to the threats.  The game has no playoff implications as John Glenn is 2-6 and Ann Arbor Huron is 0-8. Quavon Smith shouldn’t be the only one missing this game Friday.  The whole John Glenn varsity coaching staff should be forced to sit out not only this game, but they should be done for life – at John Glenn and elsewhere.  And Mr. Baracy, if you couldn’t come to this decision on your own, that’s pathetic in itself.
