Blaine Gabbert left last night's game with an injury, making room for backup quarterback Chad Henne to take a shot at running the offense. In his limited time, Henne looked comfortable and through the ball all over the field. Blaine Gabbert will likely be ready to play next week physically, but Mike Mularkey should use Gabbert's injury to his advantage. Throughout the preseason, Blaine Gabbert was clearly the Jaguars' best quarterback. He was making the throws he needed to hit, and Chad Henne looked lost much of the time. That wasn't the case last night, and the Jaguars need to confront the realistic possibility that Blaine Gabbert isn't the answer. That's where Gabbert's injury suddenly becomes very convenient for Mike Mularkey. The Jaguars' head coach should strongly consider starting Henne over Gabbert due to Blaine Gabbert's injury. Using that explanation gives the Jaguars one free week to evaluate Henne without necessarily committing to him for the remainder of the year. The fact of the matter is that Blaine Gabbert hasn't played very well this season, and with Henne at the helm, the Jaguars' offense looked very solid, even if it was only because the Colts were playing a relaxed defense. Jacksonville needs to know what Henne has as their starter, and the only way to find out is by trying him out. Don't be surprised if Mularkey gives Henne the nod on Monday of next week.
