The plot thickens in the Adrian Peterson arrest case at a Houston night club early Saturday morning.

A patron shot a video of Peterson being escorted out of the club but didn't capture the events leading up his apprehension.

What it did show was a very crowded club with quite a bit of commotion, no surprise, considering most were well aware of Peterson's stature.

I mention this fact for two reasons.

The first being that the security guard/off-duty policeman and two 'other cops' (what were they doing there?) involved certainly knew who they were dealing with.

Secondly, according to reports, the security guard informed Peterson and a group of people he was talking to it was time to leave the club as it closed. When he told them a second time, Peterson allegedly informed the officer he had heard him the first time and pushed the officer in the shoulder, causing him to stumble.

Why was the security guard instigating the situation with a famous athlete when he clearly hadn't persuaded other people to vacate the premises? Was he considerate in his approach, or did the off-duty cop 'cop' an attitude?

For the moment let's give the security guard the benefit of the doubt. Assume he passed a second time and politely asked Mr. Peterson to leave the club, and Mr. Peterson was rude and pushed him in the shoulder. Wow, call out the SWAT team!  Who coincidentally were right on the scene and further escalated the 'conflict'.

I'm just throwing it out there because the whole scenario sounds very suspect to me. I'm not necessarily defending Peterson. But I'm not going to judge him until getting all the facts.

This isn't Pacman Jones. We shouldn't rush to judgement against a guy who has to this point had an exemplary reputation. If the bouncer did have an antagonistic attitude toward Peterson, I can understand Peterson reacting in a defensive posture.

According to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, a source claims that after exchanging words with an officer, 'Peterson was walking out when a cop jumped on his back'.

Rusty Hardin also mentioned that Peterson required medical attention for the incident, particularly to his face as well as his shoulders. Hardin maintains that Peterson did nothing to provoke the incident and that the police "jumped" his client.

As they used to say in the old gangster movies, I smell a rat.
