Via Down And Distance:

As Adrian Peterson chased Eric Dickerson’s single season record of 2,105 yards, he ended the season just nine yards short of the record. The miraculous part about Peterson’s season was that he tore his ACL last December. Today, Peterson spoke with the NFL Network about his season and his future goals.
Peterson spoke about being only nine yards short of the record.
“It was a terrible feeling,” Peterson said. “I kind of figured I didn’t break the record. I kind of assumed maybe I was 30-40 away from it.
“When I heard nine, my heart just sunk into my stomach. (There were) 5-6-7 plays I was impatient or made the wrong read – I could have blew it out the water.”
Peterson went on to talk about next season and had, what might seem like an impossible goal for a running back. Peterson says next season, he wants to rush for 2,500 yards.
“I want to try to set the ball higher than that,” Peterson said. “I want to make it the 2,500 club.
“It’s definitely out there. I feel like it’s definitely attainable. … Enjoy this last year because the record’s going down, with ease.”
For a running back, 2,500 yards seems like an unattainable goal. However, plenty of people doubted Peterson coming into the 2012 season and he shut them up. This season, Peterson looked like one of the best running backs to ever play the game. With Ponder as his quarterback, if Peterson could stay healthy, he has a chance to break Dickerson’s record of 2,105 rushing yards.
I guess you could call me a doubter, but I do not think Peterson can get to 2,500 yards.
I would love to see him prove me wrong.
