As Adrian Peterson chased Eric Dickerson’s single season record of 2,105 yards, he ended the season just nine yards short of the record. The miraculous part about Peterson’s season was that he tore his ACL last December. Today, Peterson spoke with the NFL Network about his season and his future goals.

Peterson spoke about being only nine yards short of the record.

“It was a terrible feeling,” Peterson said. “I kind of figured I didn’t break the record. I kind of assumed maybe I was 30-40 away from it.

“When I heard nine, my heart just sunk into my stomach. (There were) 5-6-7 plays I was impatient or made the wrong read – I could have blew it out the water.”

Peterson went on to talk about next season and had, what might seem like an impossible goal for a running back. Peterson says next season, he wants to rush for 2,500 yards.

“I want to try to set the ball higher than that,” Peterson said. “I want to make it the 2,500 club.

“It’s definitely out there. I feel like it’s definitely attainable. … Enjoy this last year because the record’s going down, with ease.”

For a running back, 2,500 yards seems like an unattainable goal. However,  plenty of people doubted Peterson coming into the 2012 season and he shut them up. This season, Peterson looked like one of the best running backs to ever play the game. With Ponder as his quarterback, if Peterson could stay healthy, he has a chance to break Dickerson’s record of 2,105 rushing yards.

I guess you could call me a doubter, but I do not think Peterson can get to 2,500 yards.

I would love to see him prove me wrong.

Green Bay Packers bar taunts Adrian Peterson

Nothing like adding a little insult to injury.  Missing out on breaking Eric Dickerson’s record by such a small margin is brutal, even if Peterson is happy that the Vikings made the playoffs. After falling short of the record and beating the Packers in the Metrodome, the Vikings now head to Lambeau for the Wild Card round of the playoffs.  And it appears based on this sign, that...

Green Bay bar teases Adrian Peterson for not breaking Dickerson’s record

@HeyMattK, @KeithLeventhalLeading up to tomorrow night’s playoff game between the Vikings and Packers, a bar in Green Bay decided to poke fun at Adrian Peterson for falling nine yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record. Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName...

Packers bar trash talks Adrian Peterson over rushing record (Picture)

NFC North rivals Green Bay and Minnesota will meet in the playoffs Saturday, and matters are so intense even sports bars are getting in on the trash talk. The Stadium View Bar and Grille located on 1963 Holmgren Way in Green Bay has placed two signs on its property taunting Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. One sign is hanging inside the bar while the other is outside it. Both...

Adrian Peterson aiming for 2,500 yards next season

Last Sunday, Eric Dickerson breathed a huge sigh of relief as Adrian Peterson came this close to breaking his single-season rushing record. Still, A.D. has a message for E.D.: Don't get comfortable. In a segment for NFL Network's "NFL Gameday Morning" on Saturday, the Vikings' All-World running back expressed his desire to reach 2,500 yards in 2013. "...

Adrian Peterson Taunted by Green Bay Bar That Has Banner Saying ‘This Is What Nine Yards Look Like’ (Photo)

Let’s review the situation. Green Bay and Minnesota are division rivals and have been for some time. Packers fans and Vikings fans don’t get along. The two teams split their meetings this year, with both sides winning at home. Now they are playing each other again in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs, with the feel-good story of the surgically repaired Adrian Peterson looking...

Packers stand up to Peterson -- finally

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Packers were confident they were going to stop Adrian Peterson in Saturday's playoff rematch with the Minnesota Vikings. Based on the results of the two regular-season games against the NFL's best running back, that seemed like a long shot. But, with improved tackling and better gap control, the Packers held Peterson who had 409 rushing yards combined...

Peterson shut down as Vikes fall 24-10 to Packers

Adrian Peterson was shut down and Christian Ponder sidelined. That left the Minnesota Vikings short-handed, overmatched and barely able to do much of anything against the Green Bay Packers. Peterson was held to 99 yards, after gaining 199 and 210 in the first two games against Green Bay, and Joe Webb struggled in place of Ponder as the Packers rolled to a 24-10 victory over the...

Packers want to force Ponder to beat them

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Adrian Peterson was the best player for the Minnesota Vikings all season. There is no debating that. But as great as the team's star running back was, he needed some help from quarterback Christian Ponder in order to get the Vikings into the playoffs. Throughout most of the season, Peterson didn't get that help. In his second NFL season, Ponder mostly struggled...

Packers' Harris nearly matches Peterson

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Packers first-year running back DuJuan Harris claims he doesn't care about statistics. If he did care, Harris would like the way the box score looked for him after Green Bay's 24-10 playoff win Saturday night over the Minnesota Vikings. Harris finished with 100 total yards, running for 47 yards and catching five passes for 53 yards. That was only seven...

Packers-Vikings Playoff Preview: Email Debate and Predictions

For the third time this season, the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings will do battle. But this time the winner progresses to the next level of NFL playoffs. And that means it’s time for MSF’s own Packers and Vikings fanatics to duke it via email one last time this season. Only six days ago, the Vikings defeated the Packers in a close game to earn themselves a wild card...

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers: Wild Card Round Pick

For analysis on Minnesota click here For analysis on Green Bay click here The Vikings beat the Packers just last week so they will definitely hang within 8 of the Packers this week right? Vikings-Packers Live: Adrian Peterson, Aaron Rodgers Square Off in Epic Wild Card Showdown

8 a.m. ET: Two down and one to go, but this one’s going to be big. The Vikings and Packers split their season series with each side taking their respective home game. Minnesota fought their way into the playoffs behind the churning legs of Adrian Peterson last week. Now, the two are set for a rematch in cold and windy Green Bay. Peterson may not have broken Eric Dickerson’s...

NFC Wild Card: Vikings @ Packers Preview & Prediction

With the evening game of the first day of Wild Card weekend, we get treated to a rematch of a game that was pretty entertaining just six days ago; the 6th seeded Minnesota Vikings travel to familiar ground in the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field to face the 3rd seed Green Bay Packers. No stranger to one another, this age old rivalry looks well on it’s way to being renewed as the...

Playoff Preview: Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers

In what will be their third matchup this season, I expect this upcoming playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers to play like the others from this past season. Minnesota forced it’s way into the playoffs last week with a home victory against the Pack, however Green Bay won the division. Like their other games, Saturday will be feature Minnesota’s Adrian...
