JaMarcus Russell is a new man. And he’s half the man he used to be — literally.

The former NFL Draft bust made it known in January that he was attempting an NFL comeback because he wanted to change his legacy. At the time he began his comeback, Russell weighed 308 pounds, which is nearly 50 pounds over his playing weight. Many people cracked jokes asking if he was making his comeback as an offensive lineman. But Russell dedicated himself to getting in shape, and he is now fit.

TEST Football academy, which has been training Russell, tweeted the photo you see above over the weekend, and they say it’s current. Russell actually looks good in the picture — he’s slim, fit, and athletic-looking. Gone are the rolls of fat around his midsection, back, sides, and head.

For a comparison, Russell looked extremely tubby when he first started the comeback. Here’s a look at the pictures:

Congratulations to Russell. Even if no NFL team signs him — and he has had some workouts — at least he got himself back in shape, which is never easy to do.

  • If he's as "fit" as they say he is, why is he wearing a loose fitting shirt? I hope I'm wrong, but speaking from personal experience, I can attest that a person can lose 50 pounds and not be athletically fit to even compete at a minimum level of serious athletic endeavors, much less one as high as the NFL.

CFL beckons for Returning Russell

There is a growing belief that the CFL may be about to welcome former first overall draft pick, JaMarcus Russell, into their ranks as the quarterback looks to mount a comeback in the sport. Viewed by many as the biggest draft bust in recent history, Russell left the Oakland Raiders after a disappointing six seasons, before drifting off into obscurity, aside from the occasional photo...

JaMarcus Russell looking slim (Photo)

TEST Football tweeted out the photo below of JaMarcus Russell, he’s looking very slender. @JamarcusRussell is UNDER his pre-draft weight of 265 lb (from 315), just like we at @TEST_Football said he would be http://t.co/qIha3zV5wd — Ato Boldon (@AtoBoldon) June 16, 2013 Need NFL Tickets? JaMarcus Russell is thin! (sort of)

Few have ever questioned JaMarcus Russell's talent and ability. Instead, it's always been about his approach to the game and his work ethic. That's why Russell didn't cut it in Oakland and was out of football only three years after he was drafted first overall. But Russell seems to have his head on straight as he makes an aggressive, public attempt at a comeback...

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Greg Jenkins sits down with NFL Draft Zone

The Oakland Raiders have always loved athletic football players, that are fast and can do multiple tasks on the field. Just a couple of guys that come to mind are James Jett and Willie Gault,  Well this year they signed Greg Jenkins a former dual threat quarterback at Alabama State University, a small black college.  Greg Jenkins story is awesome, I had the chance to sit down...

JaMarcus Russell Is Skinny

JaMarcus Russell has made some serious steps to make it back into the league as these photos depict the former top draft pick of the Raiders about 50 pounds lighter after some serious training. As this weight loss represents the next step, he must now prove that he can throw the football and a team must be willing to take a huge risk to add him as a # 2/3 QB. You never know, would...

Rookie DE David Bass is catching on quickly: ‘I actually thought it was going to be harder’

The Raiders selected defensive end David Bass with the final pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. A product of Missouri Western State University, and he immediately dove into the playbook and off-season training activities. At 6’4”, 256-pound, the defensive end was a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award in 2012, given to the best lineman in Division II football. Bass feels he has...

Matt Flynn, Tyler Wilson and the Oakland Raiders Quarterback Situation

Mandatory mini-camp has come to an end and the Oakland Raiders quarterback situation is still up in the air.  Granted, it’s early, it’s a new team with a new offensive coordinator, and all three quarterbacks have to learn a new playbook, but none have been impressive thus far. Matt Flynn has been unimpressive during OTA’s and mini-camp, but has made some progress.  According...

Once resembling Rerun, a new photo shows JaMarcus Russell looking fit and healthy

A recent photo posted by TEST performance academy shows free agent quarterback JaMarcus Russell looking fit and healthy. Shedding more than 50 pounds to get down to a svelte 265, the 27-year-old Russell deserves kudos for doggedly training and staying motivated. Selected by the Oakland Raiders out of LSU first overall in the 2007 draft, Russell threw 18 touchdowns, against 23 interceptions...

JaMarcus Russell slimmed down quite a bit

If there's anything former Raiders draft bust QB can take from his attempted comeback, is that he's healthier now and it'll presumably add a few more years to his life. As for signing with an NFL team, that's another story. Russell has been getting into shape and looking to latch onto a team in 2013, but isn't drawing much interest. He did have a much publicized...

Quebec City building NHL-sized rink without guarantee of team

The Quebec Nordiques started out as a World Hockey Association team in 1972. Of course, that was until 2012 when the new division realignment was announced. Currently there...
