Via Diehard Sport:

Justin Forsett scored the longest run in Texans franchise history, an 81-yard dash against the Lions on Thanksgiving. However, it would not have been ruled a touchdown if it weren’t for the Lions coach Jim Schwartz having thrown the challenge flag.

The refs ruled a touchdown on the field and Jim Schwartz challenged the play. The challenge was illegal and it negated the automatic review which would have ruled Forsett down.

  • The Detroit Lions put up a gallant challenge to the Texans on Thanksgiving Day. The controversial call (or lack of)that scored a texas touchdown reminded me of the Gore/Bush decision from Florida in 2 presidential elections ago. Coincidence of partiality ?
Let's stick to the rules of good sportsmanship by players and referrees alike......call it like you see it. If you don't see it review it.
  • If the coach did not let his emotion get in the way and did what he was paid to do this would have never happened! He has done this before and cost his team a well fought victory!!!

Bad call, bad challenge and a bad rule

DETROIT Detroit Lions fans kept booing the officials. They also should have been booing their own head coach. Jim Schwartz appeared to admit as much, pointing to himself and telling his players and coaches, Its on me, after a bizarre sequence gave the Houston Texans a touchdown Thursday at Ford Field. Officially, it went down as an 81-yard touchdown run by Justin Forsett, cutting...

The NFL MUST change the coaches challenge rule which cost the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day

The NFL world was watching the Houston Texans face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day this year and saw one of the most ridiculous rules in the league on display. RB Justin Forsett took a handoff from QB Matt Schaub and ran up the middle for seven yards. He was hit by a Lions defender spun to the ground with his elbow and knee touching. Not hearing a whistle, Forsett jumped back...

Jim Schwartz: "Yeah, I know that rule"

Detroit Lions head coach blames 'losing his cool' for the brain fart that gave the Houston Texans a free 7 points. In the end, the blunder basically cost them the game, with Houston winning with a field goal in OT. "Yeah, I know that rule," Schwartz said via the Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "You can't challenge a turnover or a scoring play...

Replay error paves way for Texans OT win over Lions

DETROIT -- Justin Forsett never stopped running and wound up with a record. His Houston Texans teammates took the same approach and wound up with their second overtime victory in five days. Forsett scored a controversial 81-yard, third-quarter touchdown and Shayne Graham kicked a 32-yard field goal with 2:21 remaining in overtime to give the Texans a wild 34-31 victory over the...

Keys and quotes

KEY: Texans star running back Arian Foster usually basks in the spotlight but backup Justin Forsett made the biggest play of the game, though it shouldn’t have counted. Forsett scored on an 81-yard run in the third quarter, pulling the Texans within three points. He should have been ruled down by contact in Texans territory but the automatic replay review was nullified when Lions...

Strange rule leads to bizarre call

Deja Boo. Sitting in Dallas for the Redskins-Cowboys game on FOX, I could hear the screams all the way from Detroit to Atlanta. In the first Thanksgiving Day game of Week 12, an illegal flag caused quite an uproar. Twice in the last four days, two NFL coaches have been victimized by a bad rule that must be addressed and changed in the offseason. In Week 11, Atlanta coach Mike Smith...

Schwartz takes blame for challenge mistake

Jim Schwartz held the challenge flag in his hand, certain Houston's long touchdown wouldn't count. Running back Justin Forsett was clearly down around his own 25-yard line, and that's where the ball would be spotted once the play was reviewed. Then Schwartz threw his red flag onto the field - and in doing so, he ensured that the Texans' dubious scoring play would...

Mistake By Lions Coach Jim Schwartz Allows Texans' Bogus TD To Stand

Coach Jim Schwartz was shown on the sidelines after Justin Forsett's stunning 81-yard touchdown saying, "That's on me." Forsett appeared to be down after a short gain on a second-and-10 play. Replays, in fact, showed he was down but the whistle never blew and Forsett rolled over and kept running. All scoring plays are automatically reviewed, but in his haste...

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By LARRY LAGE AP Sports Writer The Detroit Lions have a long weekend to think about blowing a second straight game and falling to 4-7 in a once-promising season turned sour. The Lions lost 34-31 in overtime to the Houston Texans on Thursday only four days after a 24-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Detroit led in the fourth quarter...

The Houston Texans took advantage of a big mistake by Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz. Shayne Graham's 32-yard field goal with 2:21 left overtime lifted Houston to a 34-31 win over Detroit on Thursday after Schwartz broke an NFL rule on a scoring play. Detroit kicker Jason Hanson had a chance to get Schwartz off the hook, but his 47-yard field goal attempt on the fifth possession...

Lions vs. Texans: Jim Schwartz and the Lions fall victim to another horrible NFL rule

In a sequence of events that in a way reminded all Lions fans of the Calvin Johnson catch, no-catch against the Bears a couple of years ago it seems as though the Lions once again fell victim to another perplexing and downright horrible NFL rule. During the third quarter of the Thanksgiving Day game between the Lions and Houston Texans, running back Justin Forsett was credited with...
