Wes Welker has always been a bit of prankster, even if that side of him was suffocated a bit during his tenure in New England. That side of him may have peaked in high school, though. Welker, who impressed with nine catches and two touchdowns in his debut with the Denver Broncos, joined the NFL Network’s NFL Total Access on Tuesday night to talk about the Broncos eye-opening Week 1 win. During the interview, Welker was also asked some more lighthearted questions intended to get the often stone-faced receiver to crack a smile. So, host Dan Hellie asked Welker about dressing up as pop star Britney Spears during a pep rally at Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. Welker, who was a football star at the school from 1996-2000, couldn’t help but smile at the question, even admitting to prank — albeit reluctantly. “Gosh, I’d love to say false there, but I did,” Welker said with a half-smile. “I’d love to say false, but they have me on video. I’ve already bought them off, so you won’t be seeing that anytime soon.” You might not see that video, but if you can watch Welker’s entire NFL Network interview, click here. The NBA needs to leave 'hack-a-whoever' rules alone

There’s conversation going on in NBA circles regarding the intentional fouling of poor free-throw shooters in playoff games. Some of that conversation is going on right here at this site. My colleague Matt Zemek makes the case that allowing “Hack-A-Player” strategies rewards the breaking of the rules and should be eliminated. I disagree on two fronts. First, I am adamantly...

Pettine: Manziel isn't favorite for Browns' starting QB job

Johnny Manziel will need more than an apology to find his way onto a football field this fall.   Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine indicated as much Monday during a radio interview with 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, telling the hosts it’s “fair to say” Josh McCown will be the favorite to earn the starting quarterback job entering training camp. Randy Gregory denies 'weed problem,' says he's immature

Given reports of Randy Gregory’s marijuana use in college and that he missed at least three pre-draft meetings with teams, it’s not surprising that Gregory fell to the second round of the 2015 NFL draft, where the Dallas Cowboys selected him with the 60th-overall pick. But the edge rusher does not believe that his marijuana use, in particular, is what precipitated his slide...

Eagles coach Chip Kelly made a mess at quarterback

If you thought that just because the NFL Draft was over that the Marcus Mariota to the Philadelphia Eagles speculation would end, then you clearly haven’t seen enough horror movies. The monster is never dead. No matter how many times he dies, he just keeps coming back for more. So it is with the Chip Kelly going all out to trade up and get Mariota nonsense. For the record, I...

Teammate: Zach Mettenberger sees himself as Titans starter

The Tennessee Titans threw some people for a curve when they settled on selecting Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft. One member of the team who might not have been happy with that choice is their starting quarterback from last season, Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger will likely be sitting behind Mariota as a backup this fall....
