We’re just days away from the start of NFL training camps! And I’m currently shopping for a new favorite team. Jay Cutler is my favorite player, but the Bears (1983-2005) and the Patriots (2006-2013) are the two teams I’ve loved in the past. There are/were “creative differences” between myself and both franchises that make it impossible for us to be together ever again. So after breaking up with both I look for a new team before the 2013 NFL season starts. After much deliberation and consideration.  Here’s the winner…… Indianapolis Colts: Why- First are the people. I have a Colts fan friend, Daniel Lisella, who came to visit me in the hospital a few times; a lot of my friends didn’t. On that special day in March when I tweeted out my really good and really important health news, I got a shout on Twitter from Travis, who runs the great Purdue site Hammer and Rails. Also RTing that was Austin S. like Travis, an Indianapolis Colts fan. So here’s a group of NFL fans I like already. And I haven’t even been to the Colts bar in Chicago yet. I’m starting the new radio commentating gig next week, it’s a South Bend, Indiana station. Yes, I’ll be talking about the Bears, but there’s nothing wrong with me boning up on the team in their state! Remember, it was a new writing gig that led to me covering the New England Patriots. And then liking them. Andrew Luck is a likable sort. We have an intermittent Colts writer already, maybe we’ll become more of a Colts destination if I team up with him. I’ll obviously be writing about them a lot more now! The Colts have a tendency to draft a lot of players from the Illini, my alma mater. They took Hugh Thornton in the 4th round this year. And they already have an Illini, former first round pick, CB Vontae Davis on the roster already. And for good measure they have players from NIU and Michigan State. I’m glad to stay in the Midwest with my new NFL team. Got could Indianapolis Colts websites I should look at? Anyone good Colts wise I should follow on Twitter? Post in the comments threads. Paul M.
