According to NFL.com, veteran Nate Burleson might be the guy to fill the other starting receiver job for the Detroit Lions opposite Calvin Johnson now that Burleson is healthy after suffering a broken leg last year.
Head coach Jim Schwartz says that while Burleson is healthy, he still isn’t 100%.
It’s important to have [Nate Burleson] here for our offense for a lot of reasons,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said, according to the Lions’ official website. “No. 1, he’s a good player, he brings something to the equation that goes beyond what his playing ability is. “He still probably isn’t 100 percent, but a lot of guys aren’t 100 percent right now, but he’s able to do what he can out there and it’s a good time of year
The Detroit Lions have arguably the best wide receiver since Jerry Rice on their team in Calvin Johnson. For Johnson to succeed however, you still need to have someone who can take the double coverage off of Johnson. For now, Burleson will provides just that. For the future the Lions are relying on Ryan Broyles to recover from a torn ACL.
Burleson will have to prove that he can stay healthy though. That broken leg he recovered from kept him out of the last nine games last year. If healthy, expect the Lions to have one of the best offenses in the NFL this year.
