The New York Jets and New England Patriots wrap up their season series this Sunday. In the teams first meeting, the Patriots intercepted Geno Smith three times in the fourth quarter. Needless to say, the Patriots defeated the Jets 13-10 in a sloppy Thursday night game. Coming into this game, the Patriots are 5-1 and are on a high after their last-second victory against one of the best teams in the league, the New Orleans Saints. The Jets are 3-3, and ever game so far has been determined by Geno Smith's play. In the Jets' three losses, Smith has a QBR of 9.76. In their three wins, he has a QBR of 69.17.This game may be a crossroad for both teams. If the Jets lose, they will be three games behind the Patriots for first place with a difficult schedule ahead of them as they face the Cincinnati Bengals and the New Orleans Saints the following two weeks. The further they fall, the harder and harder it will get for the Jets. If the players start to turn on the team and Smith, as th...

Battered New England Patriots defense should not be an issue against the Jets

Despite all the injuries to their defense the New England Patriots should not be too concerned about the New York Jets scoring a lot of points this weekend. The Patriots banged up defense should still be good enough to stifle the lackluster Jets offense. The one area of concern for the Patriots should be the loss of co-captain, and leader of the defense, Jerod Mayo. Mayo is a...

Patriots place Jerod Mayo on injured reserve

The New England Patriots announced Wednesday that they have placed linebacker Jerod Mayo on injured reserve and re-signed defensive tackle Andre Neblett to the 53-man roster. Mayo underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle Tuesday.  He suffered his injury in the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ 30-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. Mayo had 55 combined tackles...

Rob Gronkowski Wins Black Jersey for Being Patriots Practice Player of the Week, Somewhere Belichick Smiles for Trolling Everyone

Report: Jerod Mayo Has Pectoral Surgery, Could Miss Rest of Patriots’ Season

First, the Patriots’ defense lost Vince Wilfork to injury. Now, it’s possible that Jerod Mayo could join that list. The sixth year linebacker left Sunday’s game against the Saints with his arm in a sling, and the reason for that measure has come to light. Mayo reportedly underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle suffered during Sunday’s matchup, according...

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that a league source has informed him that Patriots  CB Aqib Talib is unlikely to play against the Jets this weekend. New York Jets: 2013 Week 7 NFL Power Rankings (#20)

Last week: 18 (-2) Record: 3-3 Geno Smith was on the cover of the New York Daily News with the headline “A Star is Born,” after Geno completed 16 of 20 for 199 yards and 3 touchdowns in an upset road win over the Falcons on Monday Night Football. Apparently this is bad luck because Mark Sanchez was on the cover of the same magazine with the same headline as a rookie in 2009 and...

Jenkins admitted disposing of box

The fiancee of former football star Aaron Hernandez admitted before a grand jury that she removed a box from their home the day after Odin Lloyd was killed - a box that prosecutors believe contained the murder weapon - and tossed it into a dumpster. But although Shayanna Jenkins admitted that Hernandez had instructed her to get rid of the box, she declined repeatedly to tell grand...

Jay Ratliff an option for Patriots?

The now former Dallas Cowboy just may be what the New England Patriots are looking for. Someone to bolster their defensive line with the absence of Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly. Standing at 6'4 and weighing around 300 pounds, Ratliff would be at worst a decent run stopper, clogging up the holes that are now seen without Wilfork and Kelly in action. However, is he truly an...

Rob Gronkowski Walked Into Locker Room With Black Jersey, Indicating He Was One of Patriots’ Practice Players of Week

Like Wilfork's, Mayo's void a tough one to fill

BY NICK ST. DENISThe New England Patriots started the season with a plethora of injuries on offense. Now that the offense is getting healthy, the defense is picking up the slack on the injury front. Two weeks after losing their defensive cog Vince Wilfork for the season, every-down linebacker Jerod Mayo, another team leader, may also be done for the year.Mayo left Sunday's victory...

So should we get ready to the the Patriots defense from the last couple of seasons emerge again? Giving up a tone of yards and seemingly not being able to stop anyone?

Depends on Talib, and even outside of him the secondary has been playing well and you still have all...
