It seems like months since the end of the New England Patriots’ loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46 … but that’s probably because the Patriots also lost to them months ago, in November.  All yuks aside, when a team plays its last contest, everyone knows that a journey that began with training camp has ended, never to be reduplicated.  Especially in the free agency era, and especially with the Patriots, roster turnover ensures that teams look remarkably different by time summer hits.  With that in mind, and after taking time to look at the Patriots’ 2011 draft, let’s reset the Patriots’ veteran roster by position, with some added attention to the guys without contracts: QB: QB Brian Hoyer is a restricted free agent.  Even with Tom Brady and 2011 third-round pick Ryan Mallett present, expect Hoyer to be tendered and ultimately retained to return as Brady’s backup in 2012. RB/FB:  The Patriots have two prominent free agents in starting RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and RB Kevin Fau...

Former Pats OC comes to Welker's rescue

Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has come to the aid of receiver Wes Welker, who has been haunted by a missed catch in the closing minutes of Super Bowl XLVI.Welker missed on a pass from Tom Brady on second-and-11 with just over four minutes remaining in the game and the Patriots up 17-15 on the New York Giants. If Welker had caught the ball, New...

Bill O'Brien Says Wes Welker's Super Bowl Drop 'Wasn't a Drop,' Feels Receiver Has Gotten Too Much Grief

One thing that everyone can agree on is that it wasn't a catch. But beyond that, there's been plenty of debate about whether Wes Welker should have been able to haul in Tom Brady's pass with about four minutes remaining in Super Bowl XLVI. Former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is one person who feels Welker has received too much grief following "...

Chad Ochocinco Urinated on by the King of the Jungle

If you follow the loquacious wide receiver on Twitter then you already know that New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has no problem sharing anything and everything with the world—even if it something most folks would consider too much info. Patriots could have interest in Mario Williams?

Mario Williams is the piece the New England Patriots have been missing since Willie McGinest. The failed Adalius Thomas experiment seemed to douse Bill Belichick’s desire for that dominating hybrid linebacker, choosing to use more moving parts than just one. However, having the franchise tag open for the one player they would rather not loose in Wes Welker and the fact that they...

For 49ers DB Dashon Goldson, the tag is too bad for Pats

The Patriots have been trying to figure out ways to fix their secondary. Too many players have beaten them wide or over the middle and they need more than Patrick Chung patrolling the middle to keep people on their toes. Well, one player the Patriots were hoping to go after was San Francisco 49ers Safety Dashon Goldson, who had a monster year on the Bay. Well, that most likely will...
