Runnig Back Reggie Bush Eludes A New York Giants Defender (Source: zimbio.com)
Speculation has run rampant surrounding the future of running back Reggie Bush and if he will return to the Saints for a sixth NFL season with the club since becoming their top draft selection in 2006.
The verdict — Bush will be back with the Saints but at a significantly reduced salary on a restructured contract — but the new deal will have to wait until the NFL and NFLPA agree to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement.
Bush is scheduled to make nearly eleven million dollars next season which is the type of money commanded only by the NFL’s most elite players, not the specialty players like he has become in the Saints offense.
In comparison Tennesse Titan running back Chris Johnson rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2009, while Bush has amassed only a slightly higher rushing total in five NFL seasons with 2,090 yards, but not even Johnson is set to make the kind of money Bush is in 2011.
His low rushing total does not necessarily mean he is not a valuable player to the Saints organization as he wears many hats inside the Saints offense that include receiver, punt return and even decoy to try and fool opposing defenses.
