When studying the 2013 roster for the New York Giants, there are several candidates that might be primed for a "breakout season."  The common choice for this distinction amongst analysts and pundits is second-year running back David Wilson who dazzled us with his impressive quickness in 2012, mostly displayed while returning kickoffs.  With the release of starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw this past offseason, Wilson will certainly be given the opportunity to be a "breakout" player this year. However, it is another second-year player that I believe will be the surprise of this upcoming year, wide receiver Rueben Randle. At 6'2", there were rumors that Randle was climbing up scouts' boards during the weeks leading up the 2012 Draft, however, when draft weekend arrived, Randle slipped all the way to the second round and the Giants selected him with the last pick of the round.  Besides quarterback, wide receiver usually has the biggest learning curve of any position on the field and in 2012, that showed in Randle's play. Although he only finished with 19 receptions, he did show the potential to be a playmaker as is evidenced by his per catch average of 15.7 yards. Thus far, Randle has impressed head coach Tom Coughlin and the rest of the coaching staff during training camp and has made several good plays during preseason games.  Also, in today's NFL, offenses commonly use three wide receiver sets so with Domenik Hixon leaving for Carolina and Ramses Barden being inconsistent throughout his career, Randle will be firmly established as the No. 3 receiver in 2013. Now add the fact that Hakeem Nicks' health makes him no sure bet to play the entire season and that Victor Cruz suffered a bruised heel last week against the Colts and it is clear to see that Randle will get his chances. Can he take advantage of those chances? With Eli Manning at quarterback, I say yes!
