Brandon Jacobs (Photo credit Jim McIsaac) The New York Giants brought back a familiar face this week in Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs signed a one year deal with the team. The Giants are hoping that he will bring some productivity to the running game. Tom Coughlin still wants David Wilson to be the starter, but he has to fix his ball carrying issues. David Wilson is the best running back on the roster by far. The Giants are really counting on him to carry the running game this year. My biggest concern with the signing of Brandon Jacobs is that he might not be able to help as much as the Giants need him to. Brandon Jacobs only played in two games last season and was not a part of any teams training camp this preseason. Also Brandon Jacobs is 31 years old. At this age running backs are using up what is left in the gas tank and hoping for something good. Jacobs also admitted to being 290pounds a few months ago. Who knows if he can get into football shape in a hurry? Even though the odds are not in Jacobs favor to be a productive running back for the Giants, he can still be a huge help. If he can still run through defender he can help in short yard gains. Also if he can block some pass rushers effectively, it will help the passing game a bit. Brandon Jacobs is not the answer to the Giants lack of a running game, but he is a start. Having him relive the Wilson carry load should reduce fumbles. The main answer to fixing the running game is to keep the offensive line healthy. The Giants running game will be something to keep an eye on as the season moves forward. For now Brandon Jacobs is back with the Giants and I am sure that many fans will be happy to see him play for big blue again
