When news broke on Monday that New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas was not scheduled for surgery and would instead rehab his knee injury, there was no initial timetable offered that would indicate a target date for his return. However, a source with knowledge of the situation later informed Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger that Thomas could return to the field in as little as three weeks, and possibly even be ready to play the Dallas Cowboys on September 5th.

A 3-5 weeks timetable seems incredibly optimistic given how dire this situation seemed only a few short days ago, but after three different opinions on his knee, both Thomas and the Giants are now feeling quite optimistic. But, of course, his targeted return could be affected should the veteran cornerback face any sort of setbacks during his rehab.

“He’ll jump into a rehab program,” Tom Coughlin said on Monday. “We’ll watch him very, very closely, we’ll hopefully accelerate the strengthening of the knee and see how soon he can join us and we’ll hope for the very best.”

Shortly after the Giants offered Thomas' update to the media, T2 tweeted a picture of he and his daughter, both with huge smiles on their faces, with the caption "My GOODLUCK charm."

Seemingly in good spirits, and experiencing no pain, it's safe to assume Thomas did not re-tear his ACL. And although the team stands by its initial report that the injury is ACL-related, no greater details have been made public. And as we at Giants 101 said at the time of the injury, the mere fact that he was able to walk with stability in his knee and did not have any pain was a great sign.

NOTE: Because he already practice, Terrell Thomas is not eligible to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and the "franchise player" Injured Reserve (IR) rule has not been approved by all parties, and not available for use in the NFL this year.
