So long, David. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the New York Giants will cut center David Baas, saving them $1.7 million in cap space. As I said on @SNYtv (and I know you were watching), the Giants are cutting C David Baas. Will clear about $1.7M in salary cap space. #NYG — Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoNYDN) March 10, 2014 It’s not surprising to see Baas go, as injuries have halted his progress on the field with the G-Men. Baas, who spent three seasons in New York, played just three games last season, but his inability to stay on the field combined with his subpar play have resulted in his expected release. With Baas out of the picture, the Giants have reportedly set their sights on former Green Bay Packer’s center Evan Dietrich-Smith, according to Vacchiano. Vacchiano also lists former New Orleans Saints center and free agent Brian de la Puente as a target for the G-Men. Clearly, New York is putting an emphasis on the offensive line, which is exactly what they should be doing. I recently touched on the Giants drafting along the offensive line with the No. 12 overall pick, which should be the move. With Pugh already holding down the right tackle position and Big Blue potentially drafting a left tackle, the Giants would be set along the offensive line with a new center. Big Blue will feature some new faces in 2014—hopefully ones that equal a playoff appearance in New York.
