Should the New York Giants be comfortable with what they have at wide receiver? There’s reason to be skeptical. Outside of Victor Cruz, the receiving corps is questionable and unproven. And after the subpar performance Cruz gave down the stretch, fans may not feel entirely comfortable with him as their No. 1 wideout now that Hakeem Nicks is gone to Indianapolis. The Giants are hopeful a new offense brought in by coordinator Ben McAdoo will provide plenty of opportunities for the young receivers to showcase their abilities and help boost the passing attack back to prominence. That means guys like Rueben Randle, who had a quality year last season but was the culprit on a handful of Eli Manning’s 27 interceptions, will need to step up his game as get a lot of reps on offense. With McAdoo on the staff last season, the Packers used three-receiver sets more than 60 percent of the time. There’s no reason to expect anything short of the same now that he’s calling the shots in New York. With a wielding gunslinger like Manning in the pocket and lethal playmakers like Cruz, Randle and rookie Odell Beckham spread wide, the Giants have the potential to quickly develop into one of the league’s more potent offenses. That could be huge for the G-Men, who would love to return to the playoffs and, maybe, another run to the Super Bowl. That will be largely dependent on Manning and the Giants’ receivers, and we’ll get a greater insight into what to expect from them in a few short weeks at training camp.
