In addition to working out former Indianapolis Colts safety David Caldwell on Friday, Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger reports the New York Giants also hosted free agent quarterbacks Josh McCown, Stephen McGee and Brian Hoyer.

McCown, a third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2002 NFL Draft, has also spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers and most recently, the Chicago Bears. He's appeared in 50 career games, completing 645 of his 1,113 passes (58%) for 6,998 yards, 37 touchdowns and 44 interceptions. He was released by Chicago last week.

A fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2009, McGee has spent his entire career in Dallas serving as a back-up. In three career games filling in for Tony Romo, he completed 46 of 82 passes (56.1%) for three touchdowns. He's also gained 102 yards on 17 carries. The Cowboys released him earlier this week.

Finally, Hoyer was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2009 by the New England Patriots, where he's spent his entire career. In 13 NFL games, he's completed 27 of his 43 passes (62.8%) for 286 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Like McCown, he was released last week during final cuts.

With both the Giants and Cowboys having played on Wednesday, they have been afforded the unique luxury of signing vested veterans without guaranteeing their full salary before any other NFL team. That doesn't necessarily indicate they'll sign anyone who visited on Friday, just that they're doing their due diligence.

With David Carr the current back-up, and Ryan Perrilloux waiting to be signed, released, re-signed again, and then released from the Practice Squad again, odds are the quarterbacks were merely brought in to throw to defensive backs and wide receivers that were also working out (under CBA rules, a mandatory off day would prevent Carr from doing this on behalf of the team).
