The New York Jets announced that they have signed defensive tackle Matt Hardison. Matt Hardison played his first three seasons at Rutgers, not seeing any game action. He then transferred to Delaware and played 24 games over two seasons and recorded 29 tackles. The Jets invited Matt Hardison to their rookie minicamp in May.

The New York Jets will look for Matt Hardison to give them some depth at defensive tackle as they head into training camp. The Jets discovered Matt Hardison at their rookie Minicamp back in May but were unable to sign him due to roster space. After releasing inside linebacker Donovan Robinson, the Jets signed Hardison.

Matt Hardison does have some local roots as he spent his first three collegiate seasons at Rutgers. He never saw any game action at Rutgers and ended up transferring to Delaware. Matt Hardison did see the field at Delaware, recording 29 tackles in 24 games. That includes 6.5 tackles for loss.

Matt Hardison is 6-4, 285 and has some good power. To be honest, he doesn't look like a contributor for the Jets this season. He has a good motor, but so many of his plays are a result of  of secondary effort. That's not a great sign when at the FCS level in terms of being a regular NFL contributor. Can't knock the hustle, but let's see him dominate that competition before we start thinking he will have an impact on this team. Obviously he's not at a big numbers position in terms of tackles, but he wasn't outclassing the opposing offensive linemen. Keep in mind that the video above is a highlight video, not a single game tape.

Plus, the Jets are deep along the defensive line. Matt Hardison is on the fringe of the 90-man roster and will provide depth in training camp. Don't expect it to go much further than that.
