The New York Jets bounced back nicely after a tough division loss against New England, outplaying the Buffalo Bills for the majority of Sunday’s matchup. Don’t let the score fool you, the Jets handled the Bills and won the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball. If Vlad Ducasse and Kyle Wilson not committed 9 penalties amongst themselves, the final score might have looked much different. Now the Jets travel to Nashville, Tennessee to face the AFC South leading 2-1 Titans. Let’s get to know them a little better… Week 4: Tennessee Titans (2-1), last week: a win vs San Diego (20-17) 2013 Offensive Rankings: 21st in points per game (20 PPG), 29th in total yards (309 per game), 30th in passing yards (176 per game), 23rd in passing touchdowns (3), 1st in interceptions thrown (0), 24th in passing yards per attempt (5.6), 6th in rushing yards (133.6 per game), 13th in rushing touchdowns (2), and 21st in yards per carry (3.9). Overview: The Titans were able to pull off a last second win against the San Diego Chargers last week in Nashville, thanks to a Justin Hunter 34 yard touchdown reception with 15 seconds left. Jake Locker is completing 58% of his passes so far this year, with 572 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs. Locker is actually one of four QBs to not throw an INT yet. He’s has been sacked once every 12 dropbacks (7 times total) as the Titans offensive line (Michael Roos, former Buffalo Bill Andy Levitre, former New York Jet Rob Turner, rookie Chance Warmack, and David Stewart) have done a good job protecting the young QB. The Titans offense is led by former standout running back Chris Johnson. CJ1K is averaging 85 yards per game, but only 3.7 yards per carry so far this year. He also has yet to find the end zone. Nate Washington and Kendall Wright lead the team in receptions with 15 each, and former 49ers tight end Delanie Walker is 3rd with 9 receptions for 99 yards. Oft-injured Kenny Britt has been a disappointment thus far, as he has 5 catches through 3 games. Key Additions: Guard Andy Levitre Running Back Shonn Greene Tight End Delanie Walker Key Subtractions: Offensive Guard Steve Hutchinson Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck Tight End Jared Cook Key Injuries Wide Receiver Kevin Walter Running Back Shonn Greene Tight End Delanie Walker (Questionable) 2013 Defensive Rankings: 10th in points allowed (18.6 per game), 7th in yards allowed (307.6 per game), 10th in passing defense (206 per game), 15th in passing touchdowns allowed (5), 13th in rushing defense (101.6 per game), 23rd in yards per carry allowed (4.4), 15th in rushing touchdowns allowed (2), and 14th in turnovers forced (5). Overview: The Titans defense is a very stout unit, ranking in the top 10 in points per game and passing defense. The secondary is led by Jason McCourty and former Texas Longhorn Michael Griffin. The defense has 8 total sacks through three games. Outside linebacker Zach Brown leads the team in tackles and sacks. Opposing teams often throw against the Titans instead of running, which has been surprising given the strength of the team in the secondary. The Titans have allowed 4.4 yards per carry and allowed the Chargers to rush for over 100 yards last Sunday. Key Additions: Strong Safety Bernard Pollard Key Subtractions: Linebacker Zac Dyles Key Injuries Defensive Tackle Sammie Lee Hill (Questionable) Special Teams Rob Bironas is one of the better kickers in the league, and he is 6 of 8 so far this year (although 2 of 4 from 40-49). Brett Kern is averaging 45.6 yards per punt. Darius Reynaud is the primary kick and punt returner. Reynaud is averaging 22.6 yards per kick return and 7.5 yards per punt return. Series History The New York Jets lead the all-time series 14-13-1. Most of these games came when the Titans were still the Oilers. The Jets are 5-1 against the Titans since they moved to Tennessee. Rex Ryan is 1-1 as a head coach against the Titans. Titans Most Memorable Highlight So Far
