New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has officially decided to have surgery on his injured shoulder, ending his 2013 season. Mark Sanchez has most likely played his last day as a New York Jet Sanchez and Geno Smith battled for the starting quarterback job at the beginning of camp this year. Sanchez looked inline to be the starter week one before hurting his shoulder in the third quarter of the third preseason game against the New York Giants. People questioned whether it was smart for Rex Ryan to play Sanchez in that game with the backups, but Ryan defended his decision. Now four weeks into the season Sanchez has decided to undergo surgery, ending his 2013 season without throwing a pass. Sanchez is suppose to miss 4 to 6 months, and expected to be at full strength in March, right around the start of free agency. Sanchez’s career with the Jets will most likely come to an end at the seasons completion. Although fans will remember Mark Sanchez for his butt fumble and awful production his last two season, Sanchez led the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games. In Sanchez’s career with the Jets, he threw for over 12,000 yards and had 68 touchdowns, but also had 69 interceptions. Other Notes: -Santonio Holmes will miss Monday nights game against the Falcons. Holmes hurt his hamstring in Sunday’s loss to Tennessee and is expected to miss a few weeks. Stephen Hill (concussion) is also expected to miss Monday nights game. -Mike Goodson’s four game suspension is over and is expected to play Monday night. -The Jets have emphasized taking the ball away this week in practice. The Jets don’t have a takeaway since week one against Tampa Bay. The defense wants to create more turnovers to help rookie quarterback Geno Smith, and put him and the offense in better positions to score.
