Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Geno Smith during OTA’s The New York Jets opened up OTA’s on Tuesday with a fury of question marks. The biggest question mark, as always with the Jets, is the play of their quarterback. All eyes were on QB Mark Sanchez and second round draft pick QB Geno Smith. To start OTA’s most of the first-team snaps were taken by Mark Sanchez however, on Wednesday Geno Smith got to take the snaps with the first team. Rex Ryan consistently says no quarterback is ahead of the other, but did say if Smith is not the starter, they may have special read-option packages for him. Sound familiar? Hopefully if that is the case Smith has more success in those packages than Tim Tebow did last season. The Jets also have some serious concerns at wide receiver. Last week the Jets found out that their is a very good chance wide receiver Santonio  Holmes will start the year on the player unable to perform list. 2nd year wide receiver Stephen Hill, had his knee swell up a couple of weeks ago and was not suppose to take part in OTA’s. Jeremy Kerley also was battling injuries, both both took part in drills all week long. Throughout the week Rex Ryan has not been happy with how the Jets have had trouble catching the football. However, Rex Ryan was very pleased with Kellen Winslow Jr. who is currently trying out for the Jets. Ryan was very impressed with Winslow’s athleticism and thinks that Winslow has many years left. Rex Ryan at the end of the week strongly indicated that Winslow would most likely be signed by the Jets. The Jets leave OTA’s with many questions still unanswered. The focal point to start training camp will be the quarterback battle, but the health and effectiveness the Jets offensive skill players is a serious concern. The offensive line is still figuring out a proper rotation and a young defensive front will look for a new leader with the release of Bart Scott.
