It has been just a week since the New York Jets selected West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL Draft, but Smith has already fired his agent, and now ESPN New York reports teams passed on Smith in the first round because of Smith’s ‘diva attitude’.During his pre-draft meetings with teams, Smith constantly used his cell phone to send texts and check twitter according to Yahoo Sports.NFL scouts and executives continued to bash the young quarterback’s character.“He’s going to have a tough time in New York,” an NFC scout said to ESPN New York. “Right now, he’s coming off as a spoiled, pampered brat.”From an AFC executive, “One of his perceived weaknesses is working through adversity.”Smith will certainly go through adversity in New York. After going to two straight AFC Championships, the Jets missed the playoffs in 2011 and 2012 finishing 8-8 and 6-10.The Jets apparently questioned Smith’s character after interviews with him at the combine in February, but picked the quarterback once he fell to the second round. According to The Sports Xchange, the team attributed his below average interview due to the fact he had done so many interviews in a row.The quarterback dropping to the second round in the draft could have cost him up to $3 million dollars per year. Prior to the draft, Smith was projected a first round pick.Even after cutting Tebow on April 29th, Smith is one of five quarterbacks on the Jets' roster. Smith’s poor attitude will not only hurt his chances of starting this season, but will more than likely hurt the Jets’ locker room that has been in disarray for sometime now.
