At one point things looked quite bright for the number five overall pick of the 2009 draft, but things could not get much sourer for Quarterback Mark Sanchez. After leading the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championships in 2009 and 2010, New York has missed the playoffs the last two seasons and has steadily declined in the standings.Sanchez has reached the low point of his career this week as he has lost his starting job. This weekend’s game will be just the second game of Sanchez’s career where he will not start. After the season, the Jets will attempt to trade Sanchez away according to the New York Daily News, but the quarterback is owed 8.25 million dollars on top of his three million dollar salary. The Jets will likely have to pay Sanchez a big portion of his salary to get teams to bite on the deal.Even then, New York cannot expect to receive much more than a late round pick for the struggling quarterback. For those reasons, it seems quite possible that Sanchez will return to New York next season whether he starts or not.Although it is easy to place this year’s Jets struggles on QB Mark Sanchez (ten interceptions and five fumbles in the last seven games), this team was a train wreck waiting to happen. The correct offensive weapons were not in place for any quarterback to succeed with the Jets this season. Then, top cornerback Darrelle Revis and Wide Receiver Santonio Holmes were knocked out with injury early this year. It also doesn’t help that head coach Rex Ryan puts too much pressure on the franchise by guaranteeing a Super Bowl Championship every season. And who can forget the Tim Tebow trade that could not have backfired anymore. Rather than Tebow providing another weapon for defenses to scheme against in an otherwise stagnant offense, he became another media distraction and a Sanchez confidence crusher. So, instead of having two quarterbacks that can start, the New York Jets have two quarterbacks that they don’t want.
