The New York Jets will travel to Tennessee this week to take on the 2-1 Titans in a very crucial game for both teams. Geno Smith and the Jets offense will try an duplicate their performance from last week. Geno Smith and the Jets offense will try and repeat a similar performance from last week, where they had numerous explosive plays against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets had a total of 513 yards of offense last week and had two scores of 51 and 69 yards. The key for Smith is to protect the football. The rookie quarterback has struggled to do that so far in his first three career starts; Smith has thrown six interceptions this season already. The Titans are a much improved defense from a year ago ranking 9th against the pass so far this season and 13th against the run. The Jets will have to run the ball efficiently to open up the play action game for Geno Smith to complete passes down the field. On defense the Jets face the challenge of having to stop Chris Johnson. The Titans are 7th in rushing offense averaging a little over 130 yards a game. The Jets defense ranks 6th against the run giving up less then 80 yards a game. The Jets will need to contain Jake Locker from getting outside the pocket and making plays with his feet. The Jets accounted for 8 sacks last week against the Bills and are hoping their pass rush is alive again this Sunday. Follow isportsweb on twitter This weeks game might be the most crucial for the Jets this season. After a visit to Tennessee, the schedule does not get easy for the Jets. The Jets next five games, at Atlanta, home against Pittsburgh, home against New England, at Cincinnati and home against New Orleans. The Jets will need to get to 3-1 this week if they want to have any chance of sneaking into the playoffs this year. I expect the Jets to run the football effectively with Bilal Powell, which will ease the stress on Geno Smith and passing game. As always, the Jets defense will need to keep Chris Johnson and the run game in check to give the Jets a chance to win this football game on the road.
