After re-signing wide receiver Patrick Turner earlier this week, the New York Jets are now focusing on another impending free agent, and if they get their way, he won’t hit the market at all. Perhaps the most unsung hero for the Jets over the last three years has been nose tackle Sione Pouha. A third-round pick back in 2005, Pouha is one of the longest tenured Jets, and one of the best. Pouha, (who’s name is pronounced see-OWN-nee BO-oo-ha) was a late bloomer, as he didn’t become a full-time starter until midway through the 2009 season, replacing the injured Kris Jenkins. However, Pouha has taken full advantage of the opportunity, emerging as one of the best 3-4 nose tackles in football over the last few years, despite not a single Pro Bowl appearance. A leader on and off the field, many consider the 6’3, 325 lb Pouha the best run-stuffing nose tackle in the game, and as a free agent to be, the Jets would like nothing more than to see him be a Jet for life. TOJ Monday Morning Rant: New York Jets Pass Rush

Considering the disappointment of the 2011 NFL season, I find it fitting to kick off the next few weeks with a rant. Today’s topic is the New York Jets pass rush…or lack thereof. In 2005, John Abraham had 10.5 sacks for the Jets defense. It is the last time a player on their defense has recorded double digit sacks in a single season. We are on six seasons and counting...

Dunbar Jets off to new D-line job in New York

Former Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar has found his next coaching assignment, agreeing to the same position with the New York Jets. New York officially announced Dunbar as its defensive line coach for the upcoming season along with other coaching hires on Monday. Dunbar, who spent seven seasons with Minnesota, was fired after the season and ended up being the only coach...

The Jets announce their 2012 coaching staff

The New York Jets made official their coaching staff.  I would say there really wasn’t much surprise.  There was one big surprise though as quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh returned.  The prevailing thought was that the Jets would go in a different direction.  Cavanaugh returns for his fourth season as the quarterbacks coach.  Mark Sanchez set career highs in passing yards...

Cavanaugh previously spent four seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Cavanaugh played 14 NFL seasons for four teams (Patriots, 49ers...

Jets unveil 2012 coaching staff

The Jets said at one point last month that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer wouldn’t be back only if he becomes a head coach. Schottenheimer isn’t a head coach, but he also isn’t with the Jets. The Jets have now unveiled their full coaching staff for 2012.  The first name on the list is quarterbacks coach…

Jets set coaching personnel

Brian Schottenheimer has already departed the Jets following the team’s offensive struggles this past season, but quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh will be back working with Mark Sanchez. The Jets, who yesterday announced their coaching staff for next season, had not made it evident Cavanaugh would return. They even interviewed...
