New York Giants
With three of the four NFC East teams recording a win in Week 1, the pressure in Week 2 rests squarely on that one team that lost – the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants. In the past 16 seasons, just 13 teams that started the season with two losses recovered to make the playoffs. Less than 10 percent of 0-2 teams – 13 out of 138 (9.4%) – during that time span reached the postseason.NFC East Division matchups this week feature inter-conference games, games in different time zones and one very intriguing contest that some peg as a possible Super Bowl preview.Without further ado, here are “5 THINGS TO WATCH FOR” in Week 2:· Super Bowl Preview? Both Philadelphia and Baltimore have Big Game aspirations. Neither team has been shy about stating their intentions of competing for a championship this season. Both seem to have the pieces in place to do just that – but both have QBs with something to prove in the 1 p.m. Sunday game in Philadelphia.Michael Vick has to show he ca...

The Philadelphia Eagles are always a hot topic in the national media and Sunday’s performance against the Browns has added more fuel to the “are they or aren’t they Super Bowl contenders” fire. Peaking in on some of the more interesting stories about the Birds:
It’s an interesting question. Mike Freeman wonders if what we witnessed last Sunday wasn’t rust from Mike...
Michael Vick is more than a familiar name. The talented offensive lineman is working hard this season to earn some college options. The Baton Rouge native is a four year varsity starter for the Buccaneers of Broadmoor High. See footage of Vick in action against Denham Springs in this FOXSportsNext video presentation.
Just before the start of the season, I spoke with Philadelphia Sports Week on 900 AM WURD about my predictions for the Eagles season, whether we could expect to see from Mike Vick and more more.
In case you’re interested in hearing the interview, which is about 20 minutes in length, you can do so via the link below (with a slight side of static, just because you’re special)....
PHILADELPHIA -- In 2010, the Eagles finished 10-6, won their division and pushed the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers to the limit in the NFL playoffs. In 2011, the Eagles finished 8-8 and didn't even make the playoffs. There was obviously a big difference in those two seasons and the main difference was the quarterback, even though he was the same guy. In 2010...

Just because Andy Reid is the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach doesn’t mean his position with the Philadelphia Eagles is secured by any means. Ever since taking over in 1999, Reid has been able to elevate the Eagles franchise from mediocrity into the upper echelon of the league, but has never been able to deliver the City of Brotherly Love what...
Before we get to this week’s duds, we’ve got to do the best part of these blogs: tally the score from last week. My Duds from Week 1 - At QB I had Michael Vick, citing the dangerous Cleveland secondary and their ability to pick off passes. Despite throwing 4 INT’s, Vick still managed 2 touchdowns [...]
You can talk about the bad decisions, or the lack of awareness when it comes to eluding injury, but despite his inadequacies, Michael Vick possesses a skill set that few others have been able to emulate in my lifetime, or maybe ever.I’m not his biggest fan, but not since the recent arrival of Cam Newton and more recently Robert Griffin III, has the NFL seen a quarterback who can...

On Sunday, replacement referee Kevin Akin was the head linesman for the Browns-Eagles Week 1 match-up. Philadelphia defeated Cleveland in the game by a score of 17-16 following a late game go-ahead-touchdown pass from quarter Michael Vick.
That same ref—Kevin Akin—will be working the Broncos-Falcons game on Monday Night Football next...
Next up for the Eagles will be the Baltimore Ravens, and if you watched them Monday night play the Bengals, you should realize the Eagles will need a better effort if they hope to win. Starting with Andy Reid, who one would have difficulty arguing that last week Reid called one of his worst games as Eagles coach.
When the Eagles coaches watch the tapes on the Ravens they will see...
A late game-winning drive salvaged an otherwise dreadful Week 1 for Michael Vick.
Joe Flacco was brilliant for virtually all 60 minutes.
Vick could be facing an unfriendly home crowd if his performance is much like the season opener, and Philadelphia Eagles fans would only be more temperamental if Flacco and the new-look Baltimore Ravens offense have another big game Sunday.
The Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) will be hosting the Baltimore Ravens (1-0) on Sunday for their 2012 home opener. The Eagles struggled mightily against the Browns last week, but scratched and clawed their way to a victory. The Ravens on the other hand, destroyed the Bengals offensively and defensively. When I previously broke down the Eagles' schedule, I said this would be their toughest...
Baltimore backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor has trained with Michael Vick the past two offseasons, doing his best to absorb the knowledge his mentor has to offer.
The Ravens defense is putting that knowledge to use this week.
Baltimore plays Vick and the Eagles on Sunday and the Philadelphia QB presents a challenge with his playmaking ability when he runs.
Taylor, a sixth round...
Last week: 4 (-6)
I had the Eagles making a big jump this season because history suggested their turnover differential would improve, because of their high Pythagorean Expectation last season, and because of how they ended last year, particularly defensively. Well, the defense looked great. I know the Browns suck offensively, but you don’t hold a quarterback to 11 of...
John’s Byrne’ing hot picks
7-9 against the spread is not the best way to start off the season and tough for any bet maker to swallow, then again, it is hard to pick every game and have a stellar week. Biggest surprises to me were the Saints, Eagles, and Panthers not covering, but now we know the Redskins could be legit, Mike Vick is on the decline and the Panthers are in trouble...
