The Cleveland Browns coachin staff is reportedly considering third-string quarterback Brian Hoyer in the event that Brandon Weeden cannot play in Week 3 due to a sprained thumb on his throwing hand. Going to Hoyer would be huge leap of faith (one career start for 5th-year pro), but 0-2 #Browns are on the ledge, thinking about it. — Steve Doerschuk (@sdoerschukREP) September 16, 2013 Weeden left Sunday’s game midway through the fourth quarter after his hand collided with the helmet of guard John Greco and immediately underwent X-rays which came back negative. He finished the game completing 21-of-33 passes for 227 yards and rushed twice for seven yards, amassing zero touchdowns..Jason Campbell filled in for the injured starter and went on to complete just one of his six pass attempts. Hoyer had been made inactive prior to the game. Campbell has 71 starts on his NFL resúmé, but Hoyer has long been linked to Browns general manager Mike Lombardi. It would be a surprise if the seasoned Campbell doesn’t get the start, but stranger things have happened when it comes to the currently 0-2 Browns. Hoyer signed a two-year deal with the Browns this past offseason after the St. Ignatius product was released by the Arizona Cardinals. Expect updates on Weeden as the week draws on.
